My Goal
As an eco-friendly, small-business owner my aim is to make push-up paper tubes mainstream in the packaging skincare market in South Africa. I’d like to see small businesses switch from plastic or tins to using paper tubes for their lip balms, deodorants, sunscreens and other products in their ranges. The ultimate goal is to remove all plastic skincare product containers off the shelves in South Africa. By starting small and creating a snowball effect, we can capture the attention of BIG brands.
Having lived in China from 2010 to 2023, the relationship I forged with my paper-tube supplier while I was there is one I continue to grow in my business, Red Buffalo, here in South Africa. With my ability to both speak,read and type Mandarin, I have a deep understanding of the culture and how personal relationships impact business relationships. Through a thorough trial-and-error process I am confident I have found a reliable supplier who can fulfil the orders for this market, using thick, high quality paper and eco-friendly glues.
I import their plain, unlabelled paper tubes to supply to small businesses in South who can’t commit to massive order quantities typically required from suppliers on Alibaba. The prices I am able to access are far lower than others would get if they order directly from Alibaba or from similar suppliers in South Africa. The tubes have proved to be a great success in my business and feedback from my customers has only been positive.
